Lawrence S. Timpson, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, founded one of Oakland's oldest certified public accounting firms in 1924. Having been through several name changes, the firm has never changed its professional excellence and high-quality personal service established by Mr. Timpson. He was an instructor at the University of California Extension Division. He assisted many businesses through the depression years and was instrumental in establishing Hospital Service of California, which later became Blue Cross of California.
LeVerne W. Garcia was active in civic and professional organizations for many years serving as President of the East Bay Chapter of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. He was Secretary-Treasurer of the California Board of Accountancy for five years. He received the first Distinguished Service Award issued by the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. The East Bay Chapter of the California Society of CPAs established the Garcia Award in 1985, which is awarded annually to a CPA for outstanding achievement.
